Places of interest

  • The most interesting tourist destination is the huge Buddha statue, which is located far from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can combine the trip with the cableway exit and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
  • Victoria Peak is an observation point that offers a unique view of Hong Kong. We recommend to visit it early in the morning, otherwise the view is full of tourists.
  • If you are visiting a city with children, or if you like this kind of tourism, visit the local Disneyland, which is a bit smaller than the American, but at least as fun.

Basic information about the metro in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Metro is otherwise known as the MTR system. The first phase of this extensive autumn transport system was introduced to the public in 1980 and has since undergone several extensions. There are currently 10 routes, one of which also links the center and the airport. This extensive network has a length of about 210 km. On average, 4 million people are transported per day.

Ticket price

The price of one ride ranges from 3.5 to 55 Hong Kong dollars, depending on the distance traveled. You can also purchase the Hong Kong Octopus Card, which is currently valid not only for the public transport system, but you can also buy food at restaurants and entrances to some attractions.

Both can be easily purchased at any metro station. You will pay a deposit of $ 50 for the Octopus card and then you will need to recharge it to the required amount. If you use this card for transport, you will get a discount on the fare.

Time tables

Because the subway system is not subject to columns, many people use it and the metro is very busy. Therefore, you rarely wait more than a few minutes. The traffic starts around 5 am and ends around 1 am, depending on the line.

Bus transportation

You can also take advantage of the local bus service or its combination with the metro. You can also use the Octopus card for the ride, the same as for the metro. However, bus availability is not so extensive, and it takes much more time to drive. Timetable information can be found on site.

Taxi

There is also a taxi in the city. You can call him only on the street or in the places where the taxi is usually standing. For us Europeans, it is a relatively inexpensive way of transport, and taxis are on every corner. However, it is important to arrange the price in advance, otherwise, you are at risk that your local taxi drivers will get you more money than you would like.

However, we recommend that you use the UBER application, where you have the first free coupon for free!
